"Hemmingway Cat Extraordinaire!"

Type of edition: article
Clever Magazine, March 2003

This is a story about my polydactyl cat Sam and how my husband and I came to adopt him from the local shelter. It also demonstrates the unique qualities of polydactyls, or "Hemmingway Cats" as they are known due to Ernest Hemmingway's fondness for this breed.

"Cabin Fever"

Type of edition: short story
Kudzu, February 2003

I wanted to try my hand at suspense and couldn't resist using a writer living in an isolated cabin in the mountains as my main character! Alone at her computer day after day churning out chapters she isn't quite aware of what's going on around her until it's almost too late....that's enough of a "tease" — I'd be happy to have my fellow Sisters check February Kudzu to see the FULL story.

"Mother's Memory Box"

Type of edition: article
The Swamp, Jan/Feb 2003

My mother died from Alzheimers Disease in January 2001. I wrote a short poem about the box of personal things of hers that I kept and submitted it to The Swamp. The poem was the feature in a collaborative article I wrote with the Poetry Editor about memory loss and Alzheimers and how it effects families in so many personal ways. The article is quite special and I was proud to be involved in it.

"The Box"

Type of edition: short story
Kudzu Magazine, January 2003

This is a fun little fantasy/romance short story — something different for me since I write mysteries....but I've had so many wonderful email messages about it from readers at Kudzu. It's about a woman writer who buys an old farmhouse and discovers a box of old letters and a beautiful nightgown in a trunk in the attic....what happens at that point is pure "magic"!

"The Companion"

Type of edition: short story
Dark Fiction EZine, Nov. 2002

This is a horror story I had submitted for the Halloween issue; it didn't get to the Editor in time for that issue, but he published it in November and it's still on the website for viewing.
