[Writing as Alissa Sullivan] When Henrietta volunteers to help with the Halloween dance, she and her husband, George, get their fill of Mavis and her controlling power plays. What to do about her? Taking care of Mavis becomes an arduous task. Honors: "Taking Care of Mavis" won 3rd Place in the 1998 Holiday Short Story Contest, sponsored by The Society for Creative Writers and Movie Makers.

[Juvenile short story] When Brad delivered the newspaper to the old Hadley house, he was sure he saw a ghost--of old man Hadley, himself! Was there a real ghost in the house, or was someone playing tricks, or breaking in? Since he promised the owner he would look after the house while she was away, he and his friends had to find out.
